I appreciated the immense amount of backstory Teddy had about his wife, job, and life. Teddy was a multi-layered character filled with secrets and emotion.

Not only was the plot a page-turner, but the character depth was also spot-on. I enjoyed how Lehane added depth to his plot by adding in a hurricane, eerie island descriptions, and throwing in bits of other inmates’ lives. There was never a dull moment following Teddy on his mission to uncover a terrifying truth. The plot of this novel was consuming, full of mystery, suspense, and horrifying aspects. Although I was aware of what was going to happen and how the novel was going to end, I could not pry myself away from this thriller. Having seen the movie before reading the book, I felt that it ruined the plot twist for me as I knew what to expect. A page-turning thriller that will leave you with an ending you never saw coming and a truth too awful to believe.Īnother incredible novel turned motion picture. As Teddy Daniels attempts to uncover the mystery behind the missing inmate, truths about the island and himself start to surface. The Marshals have little to go on and soon wonder how an inmate could escape then disappear from a locked cell, on an island surrounded by dangerous waters. US Marshals Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule soon find themselves on this eerie island for the search of a missing inmate, Rachel Solando, one of the island’s most dangerous inmates. Shutter Island is no regular island, hosting some of the world’s most dangerous criminally insane inmates. In this grim thrilling novel Lehane transport you back to 1954 to an island called Shutter Island.

No one is going to escape Shutter Island unscathed, because nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems. As a killer hurricane relentlessly bears down on them, a strange case takes on even darker, more sinister shades-with hints of radical experimentation, horrifying surgeries, and lethal countermoves made in the cause of a covert shadow war. Multiple murderess Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on this remote and barren island, despite having been kept in a locked cell under constant surveillance. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, have come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient.
